Red Bean Anniversary

Dear Members, Friends and Supporters of Red Bean Opera,

To celebrate the Oakland Red Bean Cantonese Opera House’s 14th anniversary, we are featuring a two-day performance at the Chabot College Performing Arts Center in Hayward on September 18th and 19th, 2010. We have invited several special guests and professional Cantonese Opera artists from the San Francisco Bay Area, Hong Kong, and China to perform with our Red Bean Opera members. This invitation is extended to you to enjoy these two days of Cantonese Opera extravaganzas.

On Saturday, September 18 starting at 1 PM, the program consists of a well-known Cantonese Opera duet, “The Judgment” from the opera The June Snow, and six Cantonese Opera vignettes. The show’s six vignettes will open with the Red Bean Youth Troupe alongside Red Bean Opera’s performer in “The Joy of Hung Luen,” followed by “Saving the Prince,” taken from the classic opera Raccoon for a Prince. The Red Bean Youth Troupe will appear in the two-part vignette “Meeting at Crossroads” and “The Wedding Night” from the opera, The Rivalry of the Generals. A story of courage is shown in “Valor at Bloody Yangzhou”. A vignette of Xi Shi, one of China’s Four Beauties, is performed in “Dream at Tai Lake”. Topping the bill will be “The Last King of Southern Tong Dynasty”. On Sunday, September 19, 2010 starting at 1 PM, Red Bean Opera will present the full-length feature classic Cantonese Opera The Moon Pavilion.

More than 45 talented and accomplished performers will take to the stage for two days, accompanied by ten of San Francisco Bay Area’s most preeminent musicians under the direction of our special guest music director from Hong Kong.

Tickets at $40, $30 and $20 are available from June 1, 2010 with discounts for groups or students (discount offer for $30 or $40 tickets only).
